Hello friends!
This blog was created to provide information, updates, and prayer requests concerning a mission trip to Peru this summer — July 18th through August 6th! The Lord has provided an amazing opportunity for me to join with a team of three other college students traveling to the jungles of Peru for the purpose of sharing the Word of God with the Yagua people. We will be specifically working with a segment of the Yagua just off of the Amazon River. Sponsored by SCBCM (South Carolina Baptist Collegiate Ministries), we will be staying with missionaries stationed there. We will be landing in Lima July 18th then flying across country to Iquitos. At Iquitos we will go through orientation and then travel by boat and helicopter to spend a week in two different villages near the city of Orellana. The first of these villages will be Catala Urco and the second is yet to be determined. In each village we will be conducting “Storying Conferences.” It is tradition of the Yagua people to pass their history, beliefs and culture down through their stories instead of using a written language. Therefore, our objective will be to memorize and recite chapters of the Bible to the Yagua so that they will hear His words, believe them as truth by the power of the Holy Spirit, and pass them along to their children and surrounding tribes.
I cannot thank you enough for being willing to join with me in this endeavor to impact the Yagua people in the name of Jesus Christ. When I think of my plans this summer, the Lord continually reminds me that, “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow,” (1 Corinthians 3:7) and that apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). Therefore while I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to plant seeds in the hearts of the Yagua people, it is only by His power and your prayers that His Kingdom is furthered and He receives all glory!
“The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” James 5:16
“Before they call I will answer;” says the Lord, “while they are still speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24
I will be sending out prayer requests soon as well as information and updates as we continue to prepare. I will also have several opportunities to send out messages during my time in Peru!
Thank you all so much for your encouragement and support!
To Him be the glory!

Just wondering – what is the significance of 139?

i could tell you but I would have to kill you.
haha it’s after Psalm 139. Its one of my favorite chapters of the Bible b/c the Lord has used it to bring me a lot of encouragement during several discouraging or scary times in my life. You know when the same verses just keep popping up everywhere and you can’t possibly avoid the messages that God’s trying to get across?

Waiting for an update!
How can I be praying for you as you prepare for the trip? The love of Christ shines so brightly in you, and I know the people in Peru will be so blessed through you.
When you come back I expect you to know “Real gold fears no fire” in some rare tribal language that only 100 people know.
Love you!

I’m so excited that you are leaving tomorrow!! I will be praying for you– that the Lord will use you in amazing ways, that you will grow closer to Jesus as you step out courageously, and that Peruvians will respond as they hear these stories. SO neat that you’re going! It makes me think of our study when we read Evidence Not Seen!
